Productivity Tip: Eat A Frog

There’s an old saying that goes:  “If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long!”

It’s a similar strategy to anxiety lists where you create your to-do list based upon the items that are giving you the most angst.  The theory is that if you get those things done first, you’ll feel a great sense of achievement because these are generally the items you put off indefinitely.

Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time is a book by Brian Tracy published in 2007.  It operates on the theory that in order to reach your most effective productivity level you should do the most important task of the day first.  What if you have two frogs to eat that day?  The saying goes to eat the ugliest one first.

I’m guilty of pushing some important tasks to the back of the line, in fact I’ve got one frog that I should probably have eaten this morning.  But after reading through many blogs on the topic and checking out the Eat That Frog app, I will most definitely be implementing this strategy from now on.  I mean, don’t get me wrong – I use a to-do list (infact I use two) and each day I make a new list which includes the important (but inevitably avoided) task.  I guess it’s more of a mindset to just get in and do it.  Less thinking, more action.  So that’s what I’ll do.  Infact, I’m off to eat a frog right now!  Until next time, stay engaged, be present and have fun.
